For 2019, I am going to post a project every week for 50 weeks. I am hoping that this year long exercise is going to force me to curate my old work and shoot more intentionally going forward.

Have you ever watched a cook cook?

WEEK 1 : HOME (1/7) SOAS Mosque
The immediate surroundings of this iconic mosque have changed drastically in the last decades - from wooden houses on stilts to Yayasan and more recently, the Eco Corridor.
But I think this particular point of view must have remained unchanged since the 1960s.
WEEK 1 : HOME (2/7) Empire Hotel & Country Club
Brunei has a coastline of 161km. While a large proportion of our beaches remain untouched, there are some parts where breakers are installed.
WEEK 1 : HOME (3/7) The Billionth Barrel Monument
The Billionth Barrel Monument was built in 1991 to commemorate the production of the billionth barrel of oil produced in the onshore oil field in Seria.
I have always known what it looks like from other people’s photos, but have only seen it with my own eyes in 2018.
WEEK 1 : HOME (4/7) BOMBA Boat
The Brunei Fire and Rescue Dept has boats on the Brunei River. I wonder if this retired one fought The Great Kg Ayer Fire(s) of the 90s. The building amongst the mangrove in the background is The Supreme Court
WEEK 1 : HOME (5/7) Sungai Kebun Bridge
Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge, commonly known as Sungai Kebun Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge which connects downtown BSB and Sungai Kebun. The second longest single-pylon cable-stayed bridge in the world, it was officially inaugurated on 14 October 2017. . But more importantly, it cuts travel time by at least 45 minutes. This photo was made at the crack of dawn, New Year’s Day 2019.
WEEK 1 : HOME (6/7) Jerudong Beach
Kampong Jerudong is home to a few remarkable locations in Brunei - Jerudong Park, The Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong Park Medical Centre and Pantai Jerudong Specialists Centre. But it’s also here that you find Jerudong Beach, a magnet for fishermen and photographers.
This lone tree was too picturesque to not shoot. I arrived at sunset and waited for the blue hour. In the end, this process paid off in 2 folds - I got the photo I wanted and the mosquitoes got fed.
WEEK 1 : HOME (7/7) The Night Sky at Home
If you look up at a cloudless night in Brunei and give your eyes enough time to adjust, this is what you will see - a sky of stars. This photo was made at my (literal) home.
